Black Hills Hay Camp
Hay Camp has struggled, sputtered and flourished by turns since it was staked out, slightly askew, not far from the banks of Rapid Creek February 25, 1876, destined in the dreams of its founders to become the new Denver. Nearly 120 years later, as the Star of the West shines bright, Dave Strain and Charles Nauman pay tribute to the waves of the intrepid nomads, adventurers, entrepreneurs and just plain folk who transformed a dusty crossroads into Rapid City, the Gate City of the Black Hills in the first six decades of her existance.

The Wounded Knee Massacre
"I, the man that stand here, am a God fearing man. Therefore all things that I at this time speak of will be voiced by me in accordance with His command to me. Later when He judges the truth and that which is not the truth, I do not want Him to judge me for anything that may be untrue I fear this. I am one of the survivors of the Wounded Knee Massacre. I did not at that time see everything that occurred, but I did see with my own eyes and know part of that which did occur. No one could have stood there unconcerned and realized everything that happened when the soldiers started in to shoot us." Joseph Black Hair, 1932, by James H. McGregor - 132 pp., 5 1/2x8, b/w photos, 12th edition, paperback.
